The first settlers came to the area around what is now Evergreen in the
mid 1800's.
Ranching and logging provided a means for these pioneers to make a living.
In the early 1900's the area became a retreat from the hotter summers on the
plains. Several resorts were built along the banks of Bear Creek to allow
vacationers to take advantage of the cooler climate in the foothills as well as
the natural beauty of the area. Now Evergreen is very much a retreat for
people who work in the Denver Metropolitan area by day and enjoy life in the
foothills after-hours. We have miles of hiking trails, first-class trout
fishing, horseback riding and skiing; all within a short distance of the
community. The natural beauty of the area has inspired many artists over the
decades, and now Evergreen is home to a wide variety of arts-related activities.
Arts festivals, theater, and chorale draw residents and visitors alike. A
diverse group of galleries offers a source of inspiration for all tastes.
